A massive congratulations to our young sailors, Luke Simpson and Calum Pollard who have just finished competing in the Topper World Championship against hundreds of the world's best young sailors. Luke came in an amazing 6th overall in the Topper 5.3 class, after racking up fantastic performances in the 9-race final series, including a 1st and 2nd. Luke finished as the top Irish boat. Calum finished in a really strong 48th place overall in this, his first year competing in the Topper 5.3 fleet. His goal was to make it into the Gold Fleet out of the 198 total competitors, the second largest fleet ever. He achieved this and finished up 48th overall with his best race being 13th

As a Club, we couldn't be more proud of Luke and Calum's achievements. Their commitment to training, skill and tenacity are phenomenal. For a small club with volunteer coaches to continue producing world-class young sailors is something quite special, and is testament to our ethos of nurturing and supporting young talent. The members have been closely following their progress - rooting for them every step of the way. We're delighted for them, and hope they realise that their successes really do inspire others and give everyone a lift.

We wish Luke fair winds and following seas for his trip over to the British Nationals next weekend. Safe travels, Team Simpson!

Commodore: Peter Darragh on behalf of the Members
